With all that there is to worry about in life, I never thought that I would have to worry about home security. I live in a quiet suburban neighborhood where nothing bad ever, ever happens. Kids play in the street; dogs roam freely. It is peaceful and idyllic. At least that is what I thought, until I came home from a get together one night and found that my back porch had been broken into. A few pieces of antique furniture I had been storing for my daughter were stolen. Luckily, the burglars did not break into my house. Despite the minimal loss of what they took, home security has been foremost on my mind of late. Having your home be broken into leaves you feeling violated and vulnerable, and I have been carefully examining all home security options. The first and most obvious improvement to home security is the addition of more secure knobs and locks. Deadbolts that mount deeply into surrounding structure make doors harder to kick in. Unfortunately, windows and glass are nearly impossible to improve from a home security perspective. That leaves me with the more active option of a home security alarm system. I have to decide between a simple alarm system that is intended to scare criminals away, or the kind that connects to a paid home security service who will notify police when there is an alarm trip situation. As of right now, I am leaning in this direction. The knowledge that my home security is being constantly monitored by a professional is a thought that I find very comforting. I want my valuables safe, and more importantly, my family. The price of adding additional home security is completely worth the peace of mind it will afford my, my wife and my children.
