The use of digital cameras has previously not been heard of in the tomato sorting industry. Cameras incorporated into new tomato sorting technology are used to take a picture of each tomato as it moves along the system. The cameras able to scan each tomato since the system rotates the fruit as it moves through the system. The image is used to determine whether the tomato fruit has the correct color or to size the fruit. Fruit is sorted to be packed off separately. The process is also aimed at being gentle to limit damage and increase high value produce.
